Convert gallons per hour (GPH) to gallons per minute (GPM). Divide by 60, the number of minutes in an hour. Aquarium pumps, fuel pumps, well yields and drip systems are rated in GPH; most water pumps, flow meters and plumbing fixtures use GPM, so this is the conversion for comparing the two.

Schedule 40 pipe sizes, water flow in GPM and LPM at four design velocities, and recommended velocities by application. One PDF, made to pin above the bench.
GPH and GPM share the same volume unit and differ only in the time base. Dividing a per-hour figure by 60 gives the per-minute figure exactly, with no rounding and no dependence on whether the gallon is US or Imperial.
GPM = GPH ÷ 60
One gallon per hour equals 0.0166667 gallons per minute. Going the other way, one gallon per minute equals 60 gallons per hour.
Converting 600 GPH:
600 ÷ 60 = 10 GPM
| GPH | GPM |
|---|---|
| 1 GPH | 0.0166667 GPM |
| 10 GPH | 0.166667 GPM |
| 30 GPH | 0.5 GPM |
| 60 GPH | 1 GPM |
| 100 GPH | 1.66667 GPM |
| 250 GPH | 4.16667 GPM |
| 500 GPH | 8.33333 GPM |
| 1000 GPH | 16.6667 GPM |
| 5000 GPH | 83.3333 GPM |
Going the other way? Use the GPM to GPH converter. For any other unit pair, the full flow rate converter handles every supported unit.
Common questions about converting gallons per hour to gallons per minute.
Divide by 60. For example, 600 GPH / 60 = 10 GPM. Equivalently, multiply by 0.0166667.
100 GPH is 1.66667 GPM, about one and two-thirds gallons a minute. That is roughly the flow of a low-flow bathroom tap.
300 GPH is 5 GPM. A 300 GPH aquarium pump turns over a 75-gallon tank four times an hour.
No, the gallon cancels out. It only matters if you then convert to litres: 1 US GPM = 3.78541 L/min and 1 Imperial GPM = 4.54609 L/min.
Multiply US GPH by 3.78541. 100 GPH is 378.5 L/h. For a per-minute figure in litres, divide by 60 first and then use the GPM to LPM converter.
