Convert gallons per minute (GPM) to gallons per day (GPD). There are 1,440 minutes in a day (60 x 24), so multiply by 1,440. The gallon is unchanged, so the factor is the same for US and Imperial gallons. GPD is the unit for well yields, water treatment plant capacity, septic design flows and reverse osmosis systems.

Schedule 40 pipe sizes, water flow in GPM and LPM at four design velocities, and recommended velocities by application. One PDF, made to pin above the bench.
GPM and GPD use the same volume unit and differ only in the time base. The conversion assumes continuous flow for 24 hours: a pump rated at 10 GPM that runs 8 hours a day delivers 4,800 gallons, not 14,400. For plant capacity in millions of gallons per day, divide GPD by 1,000,000 or use the GPM to MGD converter.
GPD = GPM × 1440
One gallon per minute equals 1,440 gallons per day, exactly. Going the other way, one gallon per day equals 0.000694444 gallons per minute.
Converting 5 GPM:
5 × 1440 = 7200 GPD
| GPM | GPD |
|---|---|
| 0.5 GPM | 720 GPD |
| 1 GPM | 1440 GPD |
| 2 GPM | 2880 GPD |
| 5 GPM | 7200 GPD |
| 10 GPM | 14400 GPD |
| 25 GPM | 36000 GPD |
| 50 GPM | 72000 GPD |
| 100 GPM | 144000 GPD |
| 500 GPM | 720000 GPD |

Common questions about converting gallons per minute to gallons per day.
Multiply by 1,440, the number of minutes in a day. For example, 5 GPM x 1,440 = 7200 GPD. The factor is exact.
One gallon per minute running continuously is 1,440 gallons per day. Over a 30-day month that is 43,200 gallons.
10 GPM is 14,400 GPD. A well yielding 10 GPM comfortably covers a household using 300 to 400 gallons a day, with the balance available for irrigation.
1 MGD (million gallons per day) is 1,000,000 GPD, which is 694.444 GPM. Water treatment plants are rated in MGD; the GPM to MGD converter goes straight to that unit.
Only if the duty cycle is 100%. Multiply the GPD figure by the fraction of the day the pump actually runs. A 10 GPM pump on for 6 hours delivers 14,400 x 0.25 = 3,600 gallons.
